Position Summary: ThedaCare's pharmacy technicians work as a team to prepare and distribute sterile and non-sterile drug preparations for patients within the hospital setting. These activities are completed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Pharmacy technicians work collaboratively with pharmacists, other pharmacy technicians, providers and nurses to ensure patients receive the correct medication at the time it is needed. ThedaCare pharmacy technicians demonstrate a commitment to medication safety by following established safety guidelines for compounding sterile medications (USP 797), hazardous medications (USP 800) and ensure accurate dispensing by utilizing an electronic medical record and bar code scanning. This individual works with other team members to ensure adequate medication inventories are present in both the central pharmacy and automated dispensing machines (PYXIS). Strong customer service skills, the ability to work as a member of a team and being an advocate for patients are a must for this role.
Picking and delivering medications (first doses and filling automated dispensing machines)
Sterile, hazardous, and non-sterile compounding of intravenous and oral medications.
Phone call, e-message, and pharmacy window triage
Maintaining automation - Packaging machine, IV compounder, Pyxis machines
Interviewing patients and compiling home medication lists for patients on admission
Education Required - High school diploma or equivalency Preferred - Associate of Applied Science in Pharmacy Technician degree; Associates degree or Bachelor's degree
Licensure Required - CPhT or commitment to become CPhT certified within 6 months of hire
Experience Preferred - 2 years retail pharmacy or hospital pharmacy experience or other experience a health care related field preferred but not required
